Help Omar Support His Family in Lebanon

Hello, my name is Omar Qantar.

I am a Syrian refugee currently living in Germany. I came here hoping for a better life, but until now, I haven’t received my full residency papers. Because of that, I’m not allowed to work, even though I truly want to.

My family has been in Lebanon for about 8 years after we fled the war in Syria. We are a big family — 8 people in total. My mother is very sick, my father is old and cannot work, and my brothers and sisters are all still young.

Because there is no one in Lebanon who can provide for them, some of my younger siblings have started working on a cow farm just to help our mother survive. They are still children, but they have no other choice. It breaks my heart every single day to know they are working instead of going to school.

We often can’t pay the rent for their small home, and sometimes they don’t even have enough food.

I’m the oldest son, living here in Europe, but even I can’t help them — I live in a refugee container with another person, and I’m not allowed to work because of my weak residency papers.

Life is extremely hard for me here, and it’s painful to see my family suffer in Lebanon while I can’t do anything.

I’ve reached a point where my heart is very tired. I’m not someone who likes to ask for help — my dignity means everything to me — but I can’t watch my mother and my siblings go through this anymore.
