Sergey Simkin: The Champion Who Rode Beyond the Horizon

On a February night in 2023, Sergey Simkin (32) —  BMX Dirt champion (2017) — faced his final ride. After his moped failed, he texted his girlfriend Irina at 23:14: *"Can’t start the bike. Walking home."* Moments later, a hit-and-run driver struck him, hurling his body into a ditch. Irina raced to the scene using GPS tracking, finding him unconscious with:
- 7 shattered ribs
- Critical head trauma
- Compound leg fractures
- Internal bleeding

Despite emergency surgeries and 72 hours in a medically induced coma, Sergey never regained consciousness. The perpetrator fled but was later arrested.

He was our only son and our hope for the future.
